I'm just catching up on this – I'd wanted to read on after the first few chapters, but for reasons of my own headspace wasn't ready for the rest of the tale. I think it's hilarious and sweet that you stayed in news because it was the first room in. It was definitely the room with the most action.

I was initially confused by "Focus" when I arrived there, thinking it was some entirely different publication, and not the name of a section. There was this weird little funny antagonism between the copy room and Focus – Patti and Maria teasing each other, but also really having to kick the Focus people out of copy because they wanted to hang out there once their own work was done.

I don't even remember "Focus." Is that what they called features? Or Living? or maybe I'm just conflating everything with every other newsroom where I worked. I remember eventually walking further down the hall to sports, and asking Geoff and Joe for an assignment, and I wound up writing about a guy who I recall was the tallest NCAA gymnast ever. And who I overheard talking with a male friend about someone they called TOT, which, one of them explained to me, was an acronym for "tits on table" because apparently she was well-endowed. Oh how I wish I could forget that. But since I can't, I'm sharing it with you. And everyone else who reads this. No need to thank me.

Yeah, the features department went by Focus, though I think the double-spread they produced was called Kaleidoscope, so . . .

I wish you could forget that, too, along with every other horrible harassment that was bestowed on women who dared venture into sports. I understand it's the tiniest bit better these days, but not better enough. Also, JFC guys, that's not even clever.
